News · Varsity Baseball Takes Down Cougars 6-0

The Menlo-Atherton Varsity Baseball team started off league play strongly when they took on the Cougars of Half Moon Bay.  Going into the game, the undefeated Cougars, 5-0, had outscored their opponents 36 to 11, but this didn’t seem to affect the Bears as they easily defeated the Cougars 6-0.

The shutout was the combined work of senior Pete Discher, who started the game and pitched 5 innings giving up only 4 hits, and senior Elliot Zeien, who closed the last two innings without a man on base.  Highlights on defense included an outstanding diving catch by sophomore Max Coupe in center field to end the fourth inning, and a hard line drive deflected by Discher to Senior Jake Wang, who threw the runner out from second base.

The Bears’ attack was lead by senior second baseman Wang (2-2, triple, 2 walks, 3 RBI), senior shortstop Anthony Waller (2-3, walk), and junior designated hitter Tyler Nelson (1-3, double, 2 RBI).

The Bears will face Half Moon Bay again at home on Thursday, March 14th at 4:00 p.m.
