News · Varsity Baseball Takes Down Wildcats in Thrilling Regular Season Finale

On Thursday May 9th, Menlo-Atherton’s Varsity baseball team took on the Woodside Wildcats in their final regular season game.  The stakes of the game were very simple; winner makes playoffs, loser goes home. The bears fought hard for seven full innings and ended up taking down the Cats in a final score of 4-2.

The bears were led by Senior Pete Discher who pitched an amazing game giving up only 1 earned run on 4 hits with 11 strikeouts.  Discher said “It felt amazing to beat Woodside especially because of how much hype was around their team.”  This victory was Discher’s first complete game of the season and his strong pitching outing gave momentum to the Bears’ offense.

The offense totaled 10 hits with multiple hits by both Jake Wang and Kyle Hartmanis, outbatting the Wildcats who only totaled 5.  Additionally, the bears stole 4 bags compared to none from Woodside, which contributed to their victory. This win has put the bears into the playoffs.  Their first game will be against Jefferson High School on Saturday May 11th at 10 a.m. at home.  Come out and support the bears in their first playoff bid since 2016!
